What is Reflux?
Reflux is the backflow of acid from the stomach into the gullet (“foodpipe”) which may become inflamed and painful. This may cause you symptoms such as a painful sensation in the chest rising up to your throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid regurgitation).
Do I get instant relief from taking a Nexium tablet?
Nexium Control is not meant to bring immediate relief. You may need to take the tablets for 2-3 days in a row before you feel better. You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after 14 days.
How much to take• The recommended dose is one tablet a day. • Do not take more than this recommended dose of one tablet (20 mg) a day, even if you don’t feel an improvement immediately. • You may need to take the tablets for 2 or 3 days in a row before your reflux symptoms (for example, heartburn and acid regurgitation) get better. • The treatment length is up to 14 days. • When your reflux symptoms have completely gone you should stop taking this medicine. • If your reflux symptoms get worse or do not improve after taking this medicine for 14 days in a row, you should consult a doctor. If you have persistent or longstanding, frequently recurring symptoms even after treatment with this medicine, you should contact your doctor. Taking this medicine • You can take your tablet at any time of the day either with food or on an empty stomach. • Swallow your tablet whole with half a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the tablet. This is because the tablet contains coated pellets, which stop the medicine from being broken down by the acid in your stomach. It is important not to damage the pellets.
Alternative method of taking this medicine• Put the tablet in a glass of still (non-fizzy) water. Do not use any other liquids. • Stir until the tablet breaks up (the mixture will not be clear) then drink the mixture straight away or within 30 minutes. Always stir the mixture just before drinking it. • To make sure that you have drunk all of the medicine, rinse the glass very well with half a glass of water and drink it. The solid pieces contain the medicine – do not chew or crush them

The US Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday approved a major drug, esomeprazole magnesium, to help people get an relief from heartburn and acid reflux symptoms.
Esomeprazole magnesium, sold under the brand name Nexium, is intended to help people get and keep relief from acid reflux and heartburn.
The drug, made by AstraZeneca, was originally used to treat GERD and acid reflux, and now is prescribed to help people get and keep an acid-relieving drug from working. It has a similar effect as Prilosec, which was approved in 2003 for the treatment of heartburn, heartburn and acid reflux.
The drug, sold under the brand name Prilosec, is an acid blocker, which helps the stomach to heal and helps people who have gastro-esophageal reflux disease get relief from their symptoms. Nexium is also approved to treat heartburn and acid reflux.
Esomeprazole magnesium is the drug’s main ingredient and is used to help people get and keep heartburn and acid reflux symptoms.
AstraZeneca said the drug will be available on the US market within three years, with the FDA starting to approve it later in 2017.
It was the first drug for the treatment of heartburn and acid reflux that had been approved for sale in the US. The drug’s name, ‘ Nexium,’ was also selected after the FDA approval.

Nexium is a prescription drug that belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). This drug has been used to treat various medical conditions and to prevent stomach ulcers caused by acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), such as stomach ulcers, ulcers associated with heartburn and acid reflux disease. Nexium is available in capsule form, and doctors may prescribe it as a heartburn medicine for patients who have heartburn, GERD or other conditions that cause stomach acid reflux.
You should never use Nexium if you are taking an acid-blocking medication called an H2 blocker. This prescription drug prevents the production of stomach acid by blocking the release of stomach acid by blocking the action of an enzyme called H+2 receptors in the stomach. This enzyme then allows the stomach to pass through the esophagus, allowing the acid to pass through the esophagus and enter the esophagus where it is broken. Nexium blocks H+2 receptors in the stomach but not in the intestine, so the body cannot absorb the acid. This can cause serious side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and an upset stomach.
Doctors often recommend that patients take the medication only when needed. Doctors may prescribe this drug for patients who have not been prescribed an H2 blocker to treat an acid-blocking medication, for a proton pump inhibitor to treat GERD or for patients with other chronic conditions. However, it is important to tell your doctor about any prescription drugs you may be taking to ensure that you take the appropriate doses and that they are properly used. To learn more about the risks and benefits of Nexium and other proton pump inhibitors, talk to your doctor.
